Rivers State Government has assured Riverine communities in the State that all the projects earmarked for the area would be executed by the Grace of God before the end of the administration.
The State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo gave the Riverine communities assurance in a goodwill message at the 3rd Session of the 22nd Synod of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Niger Delta at St. Patrick’s Church, Finima in Bonny Local Government Area.
Dr. Banigo said the State Government under the leadership of Governor Nyesom Wike is all encompassing, stressing that with the dedication of the State to God, the State would be taken to the promise land, as glorious things will happen in the State.
She described the theme of the Synod “Fear Not” as apt in view of the fact that fear has gripped the people in the Riverine communities of insecurity, unemployment, health and education among others, emphasizing that if mankind have faith and trust in God; they would have nothing to fear.
The Deputy Governor stated that Synod which is an important ecclesiastical gathering of the Church is an opportunity to pray and thank God for His grace upon mankind to fulfill His purpose and His will in individual lives, Communities, State and Nation.
Dr. Banigo opined that the Synod is most significant because it held in the same year; Rivers State will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee to seek God’s in the affairs of the State in order to receive that which He promised the people of the State from the date it was created.
She used the occasion to commiserate with the Chiefs and people of Bonny Kingdom over the recent boat mishap which claimed several lives along the Bonny waterways and reiterated that the State Government would do everything humanly possible to ensure that such tragic incident does not occur again in Riverine communities in the State.
Dr. Banigo thanked the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion for their prayers for the State and enjoined them not to relent effort, because according to her “the Church have the spiritual powers to move us forward as a people, State and Nation.”
In his speech, the Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Reverend Ralph C. Ebirien said Synod is a period of stocking taking and re-examination of the lifestyles of Christians, stressing that the theme of the Synod “Fear Not” was chosen to rekindle the consciousness in believers not to entertain fear if they are truly the children of God.
Bishop Ebirien called on traditional rulers and Chiefs in the State to ensure that peace reigns in their various domains while urging members of the State Executive Council and lawmakers to work in harmony with Governor Nyesom Wike to prompt the realization of his dream for the State.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Bonny Local Government Area, Hon. Simon Hart expressed gratitude that the Synod is hosted by St. Patrick’s Anglican Church, Finima and the State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry Banigo for graciously accepting to attend and declare it open, adding that his Council would always partner with the Church in all its activities.
The Synod was attended by dignitaries from various walks of life including the clergy, traditional rulers and Chiefs, politicians, captains of industry and top government functionaries.
