Rice dealers in Nigeria have attributed the rise in price and scarcity of the commodity to the specific activities of stakeholders and the Nigeria Government.
According to the Rice dealers, the rise in price of the commodity was due to the loan of its importation and the monopolizing of the market by some individuals in the country.
Retailers, who noted that one of the problems was the fact that the Nigeria Custom complied with the federal governments order to seize some brands of the commodity, explained that it was unreasonable to ban it’s importation when Nigeria lacks the capacity to locally produce for entire country.
The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, Mr. Ganiyu Quadri emphasized that the commodity was a staple food of the Nigeria population and any attempts at causing its scarcity will result in food scarcity in Nigeria.
