The Enugu Rangers’ ambition of winning their Federation Cup since 1983 has been dashed by lower league Crown Football Club of Ogbomosho, who beat the Flying Antelopes 2-1 in a round of game decided yesterday.
Playing at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, Crown Football Club took the lead through Peter Michael in the 23rd minute, but Rangers rallied to equalize in the 65th minute through Godwin Aguda.
But the Ogbomosho boys came back in the dying moments of the game to nick the winner through substitute Bello Owello off a goalmouth scramble. While Rangers were biting the dust in Kaduna, defending champions, Akwa United, dug deep to edge out Sunshine Stars at the Aper Aku Stadium.
The Uyo boys relied on their accuracy from the spot to beat Sunshine Stars 8-7 after both sides failed to score in regulation time. The round of 16 matches continue today with Rivers United tackling 3SC in Kaduna, Wikki Tourists and Plateau United meeting in Akure, while Katsina United will battle with FC IfeanyiUbah in Ilorin.
Oshogbo boys, Prime FC will tango with Warri Wolves in Makurdi, Dynamite FC of Benin will meet Nasarawa United in Lokoja, while Enyimba FC will battle with El Kanemi Warriors in a postponed round of 32 game in Abuja. [Crown Football Club]
