Jesus is the true Vine; God is the Vinedresser and men are branches. However rain is approaching and soon trees will burst into uprising of color with flowers and fresh green leaves.
You might decide to cut a flowering branch from a tree and bring it inside. Even in a vase with water, the flowers quickly fade and the leaves turn brown – sometimes in less than 24 hours.
They cannot survive unless they are connected to their source of life – the tree.
In John 15:1-8, Jesus reminds us that he is the vine, and we are the branches. If we stay connected to him, we are productive – we “bear much fruit.” But when we go out on our own, following a course we design for ourselves, we can do nothing.
We need to rely on his presence, being nourished through prayer and His Word, in order to produce fruit for the Kingdom.
Pray that you will “remain in him,” allowing God to prune the areas of your life that are unfruitful, that you might produce even more fruit for the Kingdom.
