A Day to End Female Genital Mutilation

A Day to End Female Genital Mutilation

Female genital mutilation reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls.

This practice violates women and girls rights to health, security and physical integrity, their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death.

A person who engages in female circumcision or genital mutilation and the parent who contracts another to circumcise his/her child are liable to a minimum of 4 years imprisonment each or a minimum fine of ₦200,000.
