Augustine Eguavoen Plans Major Sunshine Shakeup At Akure Premier League

Augustine Eguavoen the new   Sunshine Stars manager is planning for a major shakeup at the Akure Premier League side in a desperate move to save them from relegation.

Sunshine defeated holders Enugu Rangers 2-0 in their rescheduled Week 14 encounter at the Akure Stadium on Sunday to climb up to 14th in the premier league table.

Our correspondent learnt that the Ondo State Government, who owns the club, has given Augustine Eguavoen the go-ahead to sign players capable of leading the team to safety during  the second stanza after the break.

It was learnt that the former Super Eagles coach had tied up deals with some players before signing the contract with Sunshine Stars last week.

Sources close to the team told our correspondent that Augustine Eguavoen   and his coaching staff are not convinced that some of the players they met on the ground are good enough for the Nigerian top flight.

It was learnt that such players would be sent packing from the club to make way for new players.

However, Eguavoen, who confirmed that the club would sign new players, did not say if some of the old players would be fired.

“We are bringing in 10 new players, five of them have completed their signing processes, while the remaining five are still pending. But I’m sure very soon they will be through,” the former Nigeria defender told reporters at the Akure Stadium on Sunday.

While expressing his satisfaction with the performance of the team against Rangers, Augustine Eguavoen , who represented Nigeria at the USA ’94 and France ’98 World Cups,  appealed to  fans of the side  to be patient with the team.

He promised to work on the areas in the team that needed to be worked on.

“We are working hard to ensure that we come out stronger in the second round and if we keep winning we can still win the league,” the Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations winner said.
